Catherine Portee files for divorce from Isaac Portee during the September Term of court in 1837. The decree was published for four weeks. The court states that if no answer to demur was made by Isaac Portee by the March Term of court then the cause would be continued. Catherine states her husband a middle aged man of color had taken up with a Miss Sally Griffin and had been seen in her company in the woods and bushes and had abandoned the petitioner. |
