The probate record for John Small, 1821, is in Box 9 of the probate records archive at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House. In his will Small stated “It is further my will that my negro women “Judah” and “Nanny” with my black boy George and negro girl Ann should continue for support of the family and be disposed of for their equal advantage. I will and bequeath to my daughter Angelina Small my negro girls “Mary and Sarah”. Also in a court cost to file papers document dated 1822, it lists Judah, woman of color vs. Kin. |
