Knox County court record regarding Joseph Amak, 1798

Description: There are four items total, most dated August 14, 1798, in Folders 323 and 324 in Box 4 of the Knox County Circuit Court Files at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady Brockman House. The story told suggests that Joseph LaPlante sued Joseph Amak “a negroe” for leaving his service, but later documents show LaPlante suing General Washington Johnson for taking Amak against LaPlante’s will and as well taking advantage of all the accompanying “profits, benefits and advantages” associated with Amak.
