931 -3 ZSome thirty-five boys answered Coach C3r Albrights callat the beginning of the basket bell campaign. The season opened thenight before Halloween at Concannon. Two ncwoomcrs and three veteransfaced the starting whistle. Brown, Griffith, and Spain were the veterans, while Ricketts and OLcary were practically new to varsitybasketball. These five composed the starting lineup for the majorityof games before Christmas, Occasionally White, Orth, and Spurgcon,all recruits, would be among the starting five. Browns withdrawalfrom school soon after Christmas was a hard bloiv to the team. Thefirst game after Christmas found Griffith and Spurgcon as forwards Ricketts at center end Spain and Olceery doing guard duty. In thenext fow games Spurgcon, White, and Orth were alternated at the vacant forward post.The season was not so successful in the winning of games,but the experiencegained was very valuable to the nee- comers whowill carry the load in the coming year* At the close of the seasonthe men who were awarded letters-wore Spain, Ricketts, White, Griffith,OLcary, and Orth. Spain was elected captain of the team. Of thesesix letter men, four will graduate* They ere Spain, Ricketts, White,and Griffith. Art Mcllroy, another senior who started out erith thesquad and was a very valuable player during his sophomore year, hasbeen unable to participate during the last te-o seasons due to internal injurj.es. The first nine wee composed of two seniors and seven underclassmen. With these, seven left for next year, strong team is an-ticip.ated. Those who earned letters wore Art Mcllroy, captain, Spain,ball, tennis, and golf, as wellsanctioned. The baseball team w ection of Cleon Goof Reynolds,C ton,0f&Hauk, OEoary,Huffman, Jaoobs, Heading, end Wolf,The tennis team had c very successful season ans won themajority of their matches* The bos who earned letters cavorting onthe clay were Burget, Taylor, Spurgcon, Orth, Conreth, B. Cox, endJ. Cox.The first golf team in the history of the school was coachedby Orvi.Uo Strong this year. The letter men wereJ. Cox, end Owen,Ijams, B. Cox,Only five athletes graduate this June. Spain, tt:Griffith, Mcllrcoend White h ve fought their last for the deer oldgold and blue, so leaving many bright prospects.
