At every meeting an interesting talk or lecture is given by some memberof the faculty or minister of the city. Thusfar the meetings have been well attended andlet us endeavor to make the future ones stillbetter.Owing to the fact that many students werecompelled to be absent in order to register andlater to vote in the November election it wasnecessary to cancel several of the regular meetings. However, Avith election over it shall nothappen again. A joint-meeting with the Y. W.was held Thanksgiving week and a delightfuland instructive program Avas rendered.Claude French and C. E. Walk representedthe Normal Y. M. C. A. at the forty-fifth convention of the Indiana Y. M. C. A., which washeld at Lafayette, Nov. 20, 21 and 22, 1914.The people of Lafayette extended a verycordial welcome to the delegates. The studentdelegates were entertained in West Lafayettethe Purdue Association.The convention was addressed at differenttimes by Dr. Wallace C. Payne of Irvington,Ind. Thomas A. Rymer, State Student Secretary C. D. Hurry, Student Secretary International Committee Dr. Frank H. Burt, President Association College, Chicago PresidentW. A. Millis, Hanover College E. L. Mogge,of Evansville Dr. George J. Fisher, SecretaryPhysical Department International Committee, and others. All the addresses Avere interesting and full of many good things for thedelegates. They all showed the importance ofthe Y. M. C. A. work in all parts of the world.The delegates were given a wider view of theby the Purdue Association.The success of the different meetings Avas duein a large measure to the splendid work of thepresident, Clarence B. Kessinger, of Vincennes.The report of the treasurer, John F. Wallick,showed that the association had collected andspent a little over $14,000 during the year. Atthe business meeting Saturday morning about$4,000 Avere subscribed for the work next year.W. A. Millis of HanoA^er was elected presidentof the association for the coming year. Themembers of the convention attended the Purdue vs. Indiana football game on Saturdayafternoon. The address to men in the VictoriaTheatre by Henry M. Dovvling of Indianapolison Sunday afternoon wras well received by thosepresent.Muncie extended an invitation to the association to meet there in 1915.On Monday, December 6, 1914, the Y M. C.A. Cabinet met in Room B 12 for the purposeof electing a president to fill the vacancy leftthrough the resignation of Richard Sigler. Mr.John Henderson was elected. The Cabinet isnow composed of:John Henderson PresidentHenry Knauth Vice-PresidentW. O. Shriner SecretaryOtho ShaAv TreasurerC. E. Walk Chairman of Bible StudyC. E. Riehl.... Chairman of Membership Com.Willis Dome Chairman of Social Com.The Cabinet also took up the matter ofchanging the membership fee, and it was reduced from the old amount (50c a term) to 25cents.Come, boys, lets boost the Y. M. C. A. workfor our spiritual development is a necessaryelement in our education. |
