It is the intention of the societyto do more debating and introduce music. Asyet no arrangements have been made for anysocial functions, but no doubt the Daedalianswill do their part in the social line. Everymember is earnestly endeavoring to maintainthe high standard of work which has alwaysbeen characteristic of the Daedalian Society.Although few in number they are great inspirit and are looking forward to a very successful year.Everyone is in good working condition andis proving himself to be a capable and tactfulspeaker in debate. The question Resolved,That there should be provided, by state ornational legislation, a social insurance law protecting the individual against old age, premature death, sickness, accident and involuntaryunemployment, was debated by the society atits regular meeting Saturday, October 24. Muchinterest was manifested in the debate and thetalks showed careful preparation.It is the desire of every Daedalian to supportand promote the interests of the society in sucha way as to meet the approval of the formermembers and make them feel that their precepts have been carefully observed.ECLECTIC.The Eclectic Literary Society held its firstmeeting of the year, October 8, 1914, to re-organize after the summer vacation. The officerselected for the fall term were:President, Hildagarde Maehling vice-president, Gladys Grey secretary, Beulah Dunn treasurer, Maize Jane Elliott artist, HazelTaylor parliamentarian, Edith Price.The society is fortunate in the return ofthirteen old members, who are already showing much enthusiasm in the work.The program committee has shown muchoriginality in the course of study chosen forthis term. The plans are to study each weekthe life and works of a different author, eachauthor being of a different nationality.Three new members have been admitted intothe society, Misses Jewel Beaver, Audry Slink-ard and Marie McRoberts.FORUM.At the first meeting, Oct. 19, the Forumstarted its work for the coming year, Rightselland Dobbs acting as chairman and secretary.Messrs. Andrew Mercker, Luther Troutman,Raymond Rightsell, Charles Dalton, CliffordBlackman, Charles Burton, and George Hahnanswered the first roll call. At this meetingthe following officers were elected for the coming term treasurer, Mercker, program committee, Blackman and Hahn historian Hahh.Although the Forum was considerably crippled by the loss of a number of its old members, who are either teaching or in school elsewhere, it started the working machinery tomove at the first call. Each and every memberof the society is doing all in his power to promote the welfare of the organization.As this is the eleventh year for the Forum,its standard must be raised again in accordancewith the standard of every day life of today.This is to be accomplished by the boosting of every member, which is not a forcedlaw but a trait of the society. Thus, with itsseven members and several prospectives, theForum wishes to accomplish during the comingyear what it has accomplished in the past years,plus a little more.PHILOMATHEAN.The Philomathean Literary Society metOctober Ninth for a business meeting.
