Of the three subjects placed before theleague, the following was chosen: ResolvedThat the United Stated Should Establish aSystem of Ship Subsidies. With the Purposeof Building up the American Deep Sea Merchant Marine. Much interest in the comingdebates was evidenced, and the subject chosengave general satisfaction.ALETHENAI.\T 7TTH eight active members the Alethenai* Literary Society has begun its work withprospects for a very successful year.The first meeting of the society was held onSaturday, October 10, to discuss plans for theyear. It was decided that the study of present day writers and their works should betaken up, together with music and currentevents.The following officers were elected for theterm: President, Grace Golay

artist, EdithRiner.The pledged members are: Misses Axel,Patterson, Beck, Coffey, Fisher, Campbell andReece.The society was visited Saturday, October 17,by Misses Provines and Campbell.CICERONIANS.With the opening of the fall term, the Ciceronians, with their usual energy and enthus-isam, have begun their plans for the comingyear. The outlook is especially good as a largemajority of the older members have returned toschool this fall. At the first,regular meeting,held October 8, at the city library, the following men answered to roll call: John Koch,W. O. Shriner, Otho Shaw, Lawrence Scheid-ler, Robert LaFollette, C. E. Melton, C. E.Walk.Since then C. H. Buckles, O. R. Nees, CarlosDunagan and William M. Frushour have beenelected to membership, and it is expected thata full membership will be obtained soon.These men are all thoroughly imbued withCiceronian spirit, and without a doubt thecoming year will be a most successful year inCiceronian history and the Ciceronian Societywill again maintain its position In debatingcircles of I. S. N. S. Already great interest isbeing shown by the members, and as schoolwork straightens out of the customary disorder at the beginning of the school year, better results will be obtained at the weekly meetings of the society.DAEDALIAN.The Daedalian Literary Society met for thefirst time Wednesday, October 7, to plan forthe years work. Although only the five oldmembers, Miller, Knauth, Pyle, Paddock andSigler were present the meeting was an interesting one and several names were presented tothe society. Since then three new men, Dome,Schenck and Byrne, have become members ofthe society. The officers this term are Miller,president
