THE NORMAL ADVANCE193surrounds the Seniors. Note how they haveconstantly worked in unison, and, in respectfor them, as well as for our own advancement, let us emulate them in our proceedings. Letus be second only to the Seniors in striving tomake the first Annual a monument to theefforts of the classes and of its worthy editors.AA7hen it is finished may we be able to say, Wehelped. Every Junior is expected to do hisduty. Juniors of the College Course are requested to report for duty.On Thursday, April 3, the Juniors met at3 :30 in Prof. Currys room, B12, and electedthe following officers: President, Mr. A7eatch vice president, Miss Curry secretary, MissLadd treasurer, Mr. Mitchell class artist,Miss Rippetoe athletic captain, Mr. Rightsell.A meeting will be called soon to discuss therepresentation in the Annual.COLLEGE COURSE NOTES.The college course, like the other classes ofthe school, is sorely afflicted. AVith afflictions arising from flood, tornado and vaccination we consider that we are quite as hardhit as any one else. The flood conditions have prevented ourelection of officers for the spring term. Thereis one grave and reverend class in this schoolthat thought it had a corner on hardship whenone of its members carrying a suit case andovercoat, counted ties for seven miles butwe beg leave to bring before your notice ahardship of even greater magnitude than this. Our poor, misguided president, Mr. HubertSakel, who attempted a visit home betweenterms, is at present writing doing his best tosubsist on the output of a small village bean-ery. He is hemmed in on one side by a cavein and is denied passage on the other by awashout. AVe thoroughly sympathize withboth Mr. Sakel and the management of theplace where he stays. AVe also consider this agreater hardship and calamity than any whichhas ever before befallen a Normal student.Miss Zelpha Burkett is also reported to besurrounded by the general tide of Indianadampness. As to the conditions accompanying thispresent wave of vaccination, they are too wellknown to have to be written about. AVe heartily approve of the appointment of a relief committee. It is not lack of space which prevents alonger article for this class. It is a generalpeevish sickness, concentrated and entirelymore peevish, in the upper part of the left armof the editor. Nuf ced.We cannot kindle when we willThe fire which in the heart residesThe spirit bloweth and is still,In mystery our soul abides,But tasks in hours of insight willdCan be through hours of gloom fulfilled.—Arnold. |
