Description: 134THE NORMAL ADVANCEY. M. C. A.The Y. M. C. A. has had a very varied program during the past month. Mr. House, ofthe city Y. M. C. A., was leader January 28,and his topic was Christian service or introducing men to Christ. Mr. House was followed byMr. Baxter, who blazed the path to a more correct mode of living, especially the small, practical details of every day life. Althoughstrongly critical, after Mr. Baxters ownbrusque manner, what he said was well received. Mr. Lynch addressed the joint meetingof the Y. M. C. A. and Y. AV. C, A., his subject being, A Philosophy of Life In strongcontrast to the previous meeting Mr. Lynchblazed his path by means of the large milestones of character. The two Christian associations were especially fortunate in securing Miss Tinling for hercourse of lectures on scientific temperance.Miss Tinling is both an English lady and aVirginian. Her attitude was that of an earnest, quiet leader, who felt that she had bothreason and justice on her side. She put thesubject in simple practical form, so that itcould be readily used in the public schools.College Course anb ClashesSOPHOMORES.The first Sophomore meeting of the winterterm was held Friday night, at 7:45. A verylarge number of the class was present. Theywere favored with an excellent talk by Prof.Baxter. Class spirit is being stirred up by theloyal president, Mr. Glen Houk, and greatthings are looked forward to. The outlooktoward winning the class games looks good thisterm, judging from the amount of excellentmaterial in the class.JUNIORS.Considering that there is practically no classspirit in Normal the Juniors are just as important as any.Other kinds of miscellaneous social gatherings haveabout replaced the Junior class meetings. Every time it comes the regular time fora meet there is something else which overshadows the occasion, such as a ball game, lecture or suffragist meeting. The Juniors are beginning to wonder howmany Juniors can be found next term. Reallygreat curiosity is beginning to be aroused overthis small matter. As long as the meetings discontinue, anybusiness will be looked after by the worthypresident, Mr. Fred Jackson.COLLEGE COURSE NOTES.Since the January issue of The Advance appeared the College Course students have., indulged in another one of their famous noveltyparties. This party was held on the night ofTuesday. February 11, in the association, literary, and faculty rooms. The novelty of theentertainment came in the guise of progressive-ness.The guests were first bedecked with bibs(which, owing to the slightly gaunt conditionof the treasury, could not be made of oil cloth)and then were ushered into the faculty room. Here the babyhood idea was carried out in theextreme and such young children as DorothyBowsher were allowed to play in the sand whilea genuine hobby-horse had been brought up forHubert Sakel, our illustrious president. In this manner did the children occupythemselves until everyone had assembled. ThenMiss Larene Davies entertained the entire kindergarten with one of Uncle Remus stories. At this point the social committee intervened
