The affair was a happy combination ofwork and fun. Refreshments were served tothose present, among whom were MissesBow7ser, Provines, Burkett, Zinck, Davies, Norris, Applegate, Costelow Grigsby, Day, Wol-verton, and Hyle.On Saturday, February 1*, Misses Mallottand Grigsby entertained the society at theirhome on Fourth street. It is hardly necessaryto state that a very jolly time made the afternoon short to everyone. The Alethenai are looking forward withpleasure toward Friday, February 21, at whichtime they are to be the guests of their sistersociety, Philomathean, who have extended akind invitation for the presence in the Training School Auditorium on that evening.DER DEUTSCHE VEREIN.Der Deutsche Verein began the winter termwith a membership of fourteen, the total enrollment at present being seventeen. At theelection of officers, Miss Barbour and MissWelte, who had served faithfully during thestruggles and the triumphs of the club for thepast two years, refused to hold office longer, and new officers were chosen, the result of theelection being Miss Georg, president, Miss Sutton, vice-president, and Margaret Gillum, secretary. After a general discussion among the members as to an appropriate and interesting subject of study for the meetings, it was decidedto take up the geography of Germany, on account of the students need of acquiring information along that line. Since then individual members have discussed the general situation, the principal rivers, the principal cities, the products and the industries of Germany.Especially was the talk on the Rhine interesting, and an agreeable innovation lay in thefact that individual maps were supplied so thateveryone could follow closely the route takenby the speaker.
