Miss Barricklow7A Visit to the State Legislature. .Miss YeagerPHILOMA Til FAN.The Philomatheans have every reason tofeel proud of the work of the past month. Thework outlined by the program committeeshowed careful thought in the selection and arrangement of the subjects to be discussed. Interesting and helpful talks were given on DavidBelasco, The Return of Peter Grimm, andThe Garden of Allah. An able discussionof Peter Pan by Miss Peters added to theenjoyment of those who w7ere fortunate enoughto see Maude Adams in Barries charming play.Current events formed an interesting part ofeach weeks program, and helped to keep thesociety in touch with the political and scientificworld as well as with the literary.Since the opening of the winter term thesociety has been very busy preparing for itsannual social affair. Influenced by its studyof the modern drama the societj7 has decided togive a play, followed by an after-theatersupper. The affair promises to be unique andenjoyable.CICERONIANS.Those who have read the columns of TheAdvance for the past four months have frequently been reminded of the fact that therewas to be a debate on the evening of February1, in Normal Hall, between the Ciceronian andDaedalian Debating Societies. There was adebate at the aforesaid time and place, and between the aforesaid soceties and everyoneknows the results. Both teams presented goodarguments and both speak well of the debatingsocieties of the school and the good work theyare doing. Although this is true, each judgesaw fit to cast his vote for the negative whichwas defended by the Circeronans through theirrepresentatives, Messrs. Ellis, Carnahan, andHaney. It goes without saying that the societywas pleased to win back the position in debating which it had always held until last year.The Ciceronians are working together in aneffort to make the work of the society still moreefficient in the future. They stand not only forgood debating, but also for punctuality, accuracy, business-like methods, and everythingin which a man must be trained if he is to besuccessful in life.DAEDALIANS.From the throes of a mighty conflict whichended in a complete drubbing, Julius Caesarand all the Daedalians have emerged with thesame undaunted fighting spirit and the samedetermined business attitude.
