Description: 106THE NORMAL ADVANCE§. W. anb §* m c a.Y. W. C. A. I kHE young women in the association have* shown much enthusiasm toward thework this term. The meetings have been interesting and well attended. The membershipcontest which closed at the end of the secondweek was succssful in raising the membershipto more than double that of last term. The girls have given two informal partiesat 520 North Center street. The first wasgiven by the Association to all the girls of theschool, and the second was given by the losingside in the membership contest to the winningside. Refreshments were served at each party, and all enjoyed a good time.To fill the five vacancies in the cabinet thefollowing girls were elected: Miss AmeliaPeters, president
Miss Mary Grigsby, vicepresident
Miss Erma Georg, treasurer
MissHelena Sutton, corresponding secretary, andMiss Zell Bell, chairman of the finance committee.Y. M. C. A.The year 1912 has been one to be remembered by the officials and members of the Y.M. C. A. During that year the officials wereheartily supported by the members of thefaculty and the student body, consequently bythe co-operation of these men gratifying results were accomplished.Beginning with the new year, the attendancehas not been large, owing to the small numberof men in school, but the attendance has beenregular, and no lack of interest has beennoticed. In fact, much interest has been shownby the Christian men of the school and the outlook for the new year is very promising.A joint reception was given in the association rooms on the first Friday evening of theterm by the Y. M. and Y. W. C. A. An excellent program had been prepared by Mr. Bold-on, Miss Peters and Miss Hamilton, who werethe members of the social committee. This reception was well attended and everyone presentseemed to enjoy the evening. The new7 studentsbecame acquainted and the old students renewed their old acquaintances and friendships. On January 7, the members of the associationwere favored by a short talk by Mr. Westphal,in which he presented some thoughts whichw7ere very applicable to every day living. On January 14, Dr. Eliot, an evangelist, from the Washington Avenue M. E. Church, gave a very inspiring talk based on the pictureentitled The Angelus, and his accompanyingsinger, Mr. Reitz gave a solo which was appreciated by all present.Taking all into consideration we may feelsure that much good will be accomplished bythe Y. M. C. A. during the remainder of thisyear. Even though conditions are gratifying,we must remember that the success of the Association work depends upon us, and that it isour duty to support the officials in the workwhich they have thus far nobly advanced. With purity of mind, body and spirit, as ourmotto urges, there is no reason why 1913should not be a record-breaker for the YoungMens Christian Association of Indiana StateNormal.
