WHACK WRIGHT, Manager.Of sterling quality throughout.NORMAL WINS FROM DEPAUW ANDBUTLER.SHOAVING wonderful ability and exceptional team work, Normal won her fourthconsecutive basketball game w7hen she wonover Butler at Indianapolis on January 17.The Butler five w7as at no time a match forthe blue and white of the State school, andw7as outclassed at every stage of the game.AVith the first blast of the whistle the teachers started with a rush, and Unverferthdropped in the first basket soon after the playstarted. The first period was featured by theexcellent team work of our men and the surebasket throwing of our two star forwards,Unverferth and Knauth. The guarding ofour team was close, and the Butler forwardsseemed to be unable to get any free shots atthe basket. The Capitol City school waitedin vain for their team to come back strong inthe second half, and the final whistle blewwith the score 29 to 11, Normal leading. AArhilethe w7ork of our forwards was remarkable, thequestion of who was the star of the gamewould have to be answered by saying therewere five. Stiffler at center played the gameof his life, fully regaining the prestige thathe lost at DePauw. He easily out-jumped hisopponent, and, by playing a defensive game, prevented Butler from scoring and gave ourforwards an opportunity to toss the ballthrough the net. Some time ago it was conceded that he was one of the best men at center ever seen in this section of the country, and it must be kept in mind that this isStifflers first year at college basketball. AVhathe will be able to do next year can hardly beconjectured. Wilson played an air-tight gameat guard, his man failing to score a basketduring the entire game. AVilson has been improving by leaps and bounds in the last few |
