Miss Schockel, parliamentarian.The work of the spring term has been debating. The questions debated have been the following: Resolved, That secret societies in ourpublic schools should be prohibited
Resolved,That women should be allowed to vote in schoolelections
Resolved, That the elective systembe adopted in high schools of U. S.
ResolvedThat the U S. increase the size of her navy
Resolved, That women be given the right ofsuffrage in the U. S.
Resolved, That coeducation in higher institutions of learning is preferable to the segregation of the sexes
Resolved, That the general holiday at the I. S. N.S. should be changed from Saturday to Monday. All of these questions have bee* debatedwith great interest and profit to all.The new members taken into the society during the spring term were Marie Downs, AliceBullington, Mrs. Brumfiel, Laura Ellis, MaryFunican, Claudia Chailaux, Orah Holly, Marjorie Leasure, Helen Ross and Blanche Hanley.At the close of the second terms work thesociety feels that the work and the benefits derived from it are worth while so that the Philomathean Literary Society promises to be oneof the strongest organizations of its kind inthe school.Y. M. and Y. W. C. A.Y. M. C. A.What has the Y. M. C. A. done during thepresent school year? First of all, should bementioned the interest that President Parsonshas shown in the two organizations. He hasshown his interest by having three distinguished men make addresses to the associations.These addresses have been very helpful to theassociations in their work.A Bible institute was conducted by Miss Cutler, the national secretary of the Y. W. C. A.This also proved a very great help to both associations. The international secretary of theY. M. C. A. visited the school and gave encouragement and advice. Ministers of the city andmembers of the Faculty have done much tomake our weekly meetings a success.Regular weekly meetings have been held witha few exceptions during the winter term. Someof these meetings were led by students and allpresent were asked to take part in the discussion. Meetings of this kind proved helpful.it helped each student present to see that hehad a part in the work and many good ideasand suggestions were brought out.While there have not been as many enrolledin Bible study as we should wish, it must bekept in mind that fifty per cent of the boyscarried Bible work either in the Suncl ly schoolor in classes led by ministers in the churches.It is not the province of the association to drawTanyone away from any special work in whichhe may be working, but systematic work is encouraged either in Sunday school or specialclasses working with ministers as leaders. Professors Baxter, Lardner, Bruce, and Phillipshave taught classes for us during the year.From a financial standpoint, the associationhas been a success. It has paid all its debts,some of which were of two to three years standing, and will close the year with about fiftydollars in the treasury. This has been madepossible by the voluntary donations of theFaculty, Alumni, and students. Several of
