The gallerywas crowded long before the game commenced andstanding room was at a premium.At 8 oclock the ball was tossed up in the centerand some rough and exciting playing followed.A short time after the game commenced, Mangelwas injured and had to be taken from the floor.Pope was substituted, but the team felt the loss ofMangel throughout the game.The score at the end of the first half stood 8 to5 in favor of the Y. M. C. A.The second half was less exciting. Both teamsdid some very swift passing, but the Y. M. C. A.was successful in getting the largest number ofgoals.Final score—Y. M. 0. N.January 24, Purdue University defeated the Indiana State Normal by a score of 41 to 12, at theNormal gymnasium.Although the defeat was by a large score, it didnot signify the real comparative strength of thetwo teams. Out of the 41 points made by PurdueLong John Miller made 35. Mangel seemed tobe unable to guard him. Score at the end of thefirst half—Purdue, 29 Indiana State Normal, 5.In the second half Mangel did better work thanhe had before and Long John only made sixfield goals during the half.
