Mail Matter.FOUNDATION DAY./^\N January the sixth the Indiana State Nor-
^^ mal School celebrated the forty-fourth anni¬
versary of its founding. The student body and
faculty assembled in the auditorium at ten oclock
where, after a special musical number was rend¬
ered, Superintendent Collicot, of the Indianapolis
schools, delivered an address. His subject was,
The Efficiency of the Schools. He based his
remarks upon three points—good attendance, good
habits of work and good conduct. During the
course of his lecture the great work done by our
worthy President in piloting the school through
the last twenty-eight years of its career was freely
commented upon. At the close of the address
the school adjourned for the day.At eight oclock in the evening, before a vast
audience and under the supervision of our musicaldirector, Miss Botsford, the cantata Ruth was
rendered by the chorus, assisted by Mrs. Horace
Sherman, soprano Mrs. H. Salchert, contralto Mr. Eugene Morgan, bass and Miss Mary Grimes, soprano. The success with which it was given showed that no time and energy had been spared in preparation and serves as a testimony for the high standard of work done in this de¬ partment. Special comment is also due Miss Wheeler, who acted as accompanist. With a reception following, given by the faculty to the students, the exercises of the day closed. We feel that the day was well observed and hope that old I. S. N. may celebrate many more such anniversaries, and that from year to year we may see it develop as has been its development in the past.CHANGE OF BUSINESS STAFF.With this issue we beg to note several important changes in the Business Department of the Nor¬ mal Advance. It is with regret that we announce the resignation of Mr. Connor as Business Man¬ ager. His acceptance of the position at the begin¬ ning of the Fall term rested on the condition that he be permitted to withdraw from the capacity of Business Manager at the end of the term. During the term he did admirable work for the paper and it is with a feeling of loss that we see him withdraw. But what was lost by the resigna¬ tion of Mr. Connor, has been regained by the promotion of Mr. R. W. Hyndman from Circula¬ tion Manager to the capacity of Business Man¬ ager. .The paper will be none the loser for the change. Mr. H. L. Carmichael has been elected to fill the vacancy caused by the promotion of Hyndman. He comes into the ranks well equip¬ ped to take up the work of his office. In the Editorial Staff the new office of Art Editor has been created. Mr. Connor has ac¬ cepted this position. He is to be assisted by Miss Lelia Johnson. With their services, the Annual bids fair to rank high among- college Annuals. |
