28THE NORMAL ADVANCE.Athletics.Although we were handicapped on account theinexperience of our players, we have developed ateam which is now able to play a good hard game.Only two games of the regular schedule have beenplayed since our last issue, both with the EasternIllinois Normal.The first game was played at Charleston Oct.25, when our team was defeated by a score of 21to 0, which score was all made during the last half.Indiana kicked off to Illinois, who steadily advanced the ball to the Normals one yard line.Our team then held Illinois for downs and byheavy rushes carried the ball back into Illinoisterritory. During the second half our team wasweakened by some of the players being injuredand Huber was compelled to leave the game.Long took his place. Illinois braced up andpiled up a score of 21 while our team was unableto score.After this defeat the team went into somevigorous systematic practice. On Nov. 6 theyplayed a practice game with the T. H. H. S., winning by a score of 6 to 0.On Nov. 8, the return game with E. I. S. N.was played on our own grounds, in which wesucceeded in retreiving our lost laurels in defeating them by a score of 10 to 0. It was a clean,hard-fought battle, devoid of any disgustingfeatures. Only once was Indianas goal line indanger, but our team succeeded in holding Illinoisat the critical point.Illinois was unable to make any headwaythrough our line, while our team always succeededin advancing the ball by tandem formations orcenter rushes.The chief features of the game were Warnersdefensive work, Spencer and Spindlers end runsand Zechels successful punting. At two different times Indiana punted and regained the ball.Henderson and Ferrish did the star acts for thevisitors.The line up was as follows:Daugherty Center CoilinsReeder Right guard ....
