tained a number of guests at the Varieties theater
Tuesday, afternoon, January the sixth. After the
performance, the sorority took its guests to the
home of Miss Clara Sass of the Walden apart¬
ments, where light refreshments were served.The active members of the sorority entertained
with a four oclock tea at the home, of the Misses
Emma and lone Hazeldine, of South Center
street, Friday, January the ninth. Miss Elizabeth
Crawford, an alumnus of the sorority, presided at
the tea urn. Miss Crawford was assisted in serv¬
ing by Misses Anna Mae Thomasson, Edith Gore
and Ruth Colliver. The guests included the Alpha
alumni and Misses Florence Fox and Orva Stine.Misses Louise Gillum, Edna Perry and Maybelle
Peck are in school again this term. Miss Gillum
has just returned from an extensive southern trip
in the mountains of North Carolina. Miss Peck
has just returned from a six months visit with
her brother in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Big Stone
Gap is the home of John Fox, Jr., the novelist, and
is the scene of The Trail of the Lonesome Pine.The Athleta section opened their rush season
with a theater party at the Grand Saturday after¬
noon, January 3. After the performance a two-
course luncheon was served at the Herz tea room.On January 6 an afternoon tea was given at the
home of Marie Rucker on Ohio street. Miss Al¬
berta Harstine poured and was assisted by the
Misses Daniel and Rucker. Many of the alumni
and their friends called during the receiving
hours. .Among those present were: Jessie An¬
drew, Alberta Harstine, Marie Rucker, Elizabeth
Kadel, May Bowsher, Lucy Arthur, Helen Price,
Stell Doershuck, Jess Boston, Gladys Jolly, Mary
Clifford, Marjorie Sabiston, Sadie Drake, Lena
Failing, Esther Ray, Janet Skeene, Bertha Retz,
Helen McKeever, Ethel OHaver, Esther Price,Ellen Modesitt, Helen Dean, Lucille Hoover, Lu¬
cille Gay. The guests of the sorority were: Mabel
Jones, Catherine Arnold, Barbara Zellars and Ruth
Hayroth.On January 10 a chafing dish party was given
at the home of Miss Bertha Retz, of East Chest¬
nut street, having the same honor guests.On Thursday, January 8, the members of the
Gamma Gamma section entertained at the home
of Miss Mary Frazier on Putnam avenue. A hot
three-course luncheon was served at six oclock.
Following this the guests enjoyed the entertain¬
ment provided by the committee. Mrs. A. G.
Butler, of Louisville, was a guest from out of the
city.Miss Anita Duenweg entertained the Gamma
Gamma Dinner Club, Jr., on January 10th, at
her home on South Seventh street.The Misses Emma Wright, Blanch Trueblood
and Esther Westbrook, alumni members of the
Kappa Kappa, came to spend the holiday season.Miss Margaret Ellis entertained the Kappa
Kappa section with a Christmas party in honor
of the Misses Wright and Trueblood. The fea¬
ture of the evening was a Christmas tree upon
which was a gift for each member present, after
which delightful refreshments were served.Miss Hazel Kiefner entertained the Kappas for
the first rush party. About thirty members and
guests were present. A three-course picnic sup¬
per was served.Miss Doris Drake entertained the Kappas and
their guests at her home in Youngstown with a
wiener roast. As a surprise Mrs. Drake served a
most delicious supper.The Kappa Kappa members entertained their
guests with a six-course banquet at the Elks club
Thursday evening from six-thirty to eight-thirty. |
