Description: 78THE NORMAL ADVANCEeral, and in order to stimulate participation on
the part of all the girls present, as well as to
guard against even an approach to one of those
harrowing praises, slips of paper were dis¬
tributed on which were writen appropriate quo¬
tations gleaned from many sources. The girls
present know whether the attempt was success¬
ful, and (this is a secret) if you care to find
out for yourself, just come to the next student
meeting. We are going to have some more. Do
you know what important event occurred on the
first Tuesday in November? We all knew,
even though we are not voters, because under
Miss Morans guidance we considered another
phase of the same question. The newspapers
at that time were saying much about Clean
Politics, and in order to be entirely up-to-date
we also discussed the question, and found that
the subject could be applied admirably to our
class-room conduct, both as students and later
as teachers, and to all our other social relations
as well. Such talks give abundant food for
thought.Another interesting meeting was the one post¬
poned for the Booster celebration. The second
week in November is observed by students asso¬
ciations throughout the world as the Worlds
Week of Prayer, but since the school was closed
on Tuesday afternoon the special meeting was
held the following week, and Mr. Mark, pas¬
tor of the Centenary Methodist Church, talked
to us informally. This year we were all glad to have the oppor¬tunity to celebrate Thanksgiving, because in
spite of difficulties our outlook is broadening
and we are gaining confidence. The member¬
ship in the organization is the largest in our
history, the average attendance at meetings is
good, and we still have a future to which we can
look forward. Its a good thing always to feel
that there is something beyond. The Thanksgiving service was a joint meet¬
ing of the Y. M. and Y. W., and special efforts
were made to insure an interesting program.
At each meeting we have had special music of
some sort, and since our Y. M. C. A. friends
were present on November 25th they also helped
with the music. The subject for the talk given
by Rev. Brown ,of the Washington Avenue
Church, was The Courtesy of Giving Thanks. Now, in addition to regular meetings, the
Y. W. C. A. has organized a Bible Study class,
and a Mission Class, both of which are doing
very well. Miss Bailey has charge of the for¬
mer and the class is studying the Old Testa¬
ment, as the record of the development of a
race. The Mission class, however, has no
teacher this term
and instead, we are having
a series of lectures on immigration, given by
speakers selected mostly from the members of
the faculty. Both classes are very interesting
and any girls are eligible to enter them.We have all heard a great deal about being
Boosters, that is, we have if we are in the
habit of attending chapel exercises. Were Boos¬
ters for Y. W. Dont you want to be one, too?The present is a point to which but little
thought appertains, while the mind hovers back¬
wards and forwards between the past and fu¬
ture, expending the store of its regret upon the
one, and wasting all its wishes upon the other.—
James.
