Description: 14THE NORMAL ADVANCEClas& #rgam^ation£COLLEGE COURSE.We like to tell of the splendor of the College
Course, its wonderful prowess in athletics, its
dazzling brilliance in social events, its glory
and wisdom in council. Great has been its past,
and still greater the indications for its future.Oh, that we had the graphic description of
a Hugo, to tell you of the enthusiasm of the
first meeting of the College Course on the after-
noon of October 3. The greatest number of
loyal members in the history of the class was
present, and elected the following members as
officers: Mr. H. E. Stork, president
Miss Allen,
vice-president
Miss Zelpha Burkett, secretary

Mr. Mercker, treasurer
Miss Clare Goldman,
editor
Mr. Koch, class artist
Mr. Hyndman,
athletic captain
Miss June Manor, Mr. Right-
sell and Mr. Miller, social committee
E. J.
Hemmer and Mr. Miller, representatives to the
Oratorical League. On Friday evening, October 17, about one
hundred College Course people gathered in the
ladies gymnasium of the Normal building to
make merry for the evening with a Halloween
party. The gymnasium was brilliantly deco¬
rated with scores of pennants, banners, drapery,
and such other decorations as Avere in harmony
Avith the occasion. The program of the eA7ening consisted of con¬
tests, among Avhich Avere the standing broad
grin, hammer throAV, shot put, thirty-inch race,
and a relay race. The crowd was divided into
groups of tens, each group adopting the name
of some prominent college or uniA^ersity. Each
college then chose from its number tAvo or four
contestants to participate in the aboA^e eA7ents,
which were pulled off in a corner of the room. Some remarkable records Avere made. The
best record made perhaps \vas that made in thestanding broad grin event. Strickler and Con¬
nor Avinning first and second places respec-
tiArely. Distance—aw well, nuffsed, you should
have been there to see them. When all the records were tallied it was
found that Yale had won the greatest number
of points. As a reAvard it received a beautiful
cup presented by the members of the class and
unveiled by President H. E. Stork. The best Avas yet to folloAv. Near the entrance
door stood a cylindrical object resembling a
keg of nails. Upon examination it Avas discov¬
ered that the keg contained Spirits of Apple.
No further introduction was necessary. It was
Avonderful to see hoAv adept Hyndman, Heinie,
and Hemmer Avere in manipulating the intrica¬
cies of the faucet. They not only did justice
to the floAving cup, but threatened to tap an¬
other keg at the expense of the other classes
on the evening folloAving the grand cider meet
to take place in November. Besides the cider,
there Avas an abundance of pumpkin pie to
Avhich all present did ample justice. Before adjournment the class chose old gold
and black as class colors. These colors Ave shall
nail high up on the flag staff, and Ave challenge
any of the other classes to take them doAvn or
to develop a better class spirit than that mani¬
fested among the College Course people. The
gods are smiling upon us. Watch the College
Course!SENIORS.Enthusiasm and class spirit were shown by
