Course, its wonderful prowess in athletics, its
dazzling brilliance in social events, its glory
and wisdom in council. Great has been its past,
and still greater the indications for its future.Oh, that we had the graphic description of
a Hugo, to tell you of the enthusiasm of the
first meeting of the College Course on the after-
noon of October 3. The greatest number of
loyal members in the history of the class was
present, and elected the following members as
officers: Mr. H. E. Stork, president Miss Allen, vice-president Miss Zelpha Burkett, secretary Mr. Mercker, treasurer Miss Clare Goldman, editor Mr. Koch, class artist Mr. Hyndman, athletic captain Miss June Manor, Mr. Right- sell and Mr. Miller, social committee E. J. Hemmer and Mr. Miller, representatives to the Oratorical League.On Friday evening, October 17, about one hundred College Course people gathered in the ladies gymnasium of the Normal building to make merry for the evening with a Halloween party. The gymnasium was brilliantly deco¬ rated with scores of pennants, banners, drapery, and such other decorations as Avere in harmony Avith the occasion.The program of the eA7ening consisted of con¬ tests, among Avhich Avere the standing broad grin, hammer throAV, shot put, thirty-inch race, and a relay race. The crowd was divided into groups of tens, each group adopting the name of some prominent college or uniA^ersity. Each college then chose from its number tAvo or four contestants to participate in the aboA^e eA7ents, which were pulled off in a corner of the room.Some remarkable records Avere made. The best record made perhaps \vas that made in thestanding broad grin event. Strickler and Con¬ nor Avinning first and second places respec- tiArely. Distance—aw well, nuffsed, you should have been there to see them.When all the records were tallied it was found that Yale had won the greatest number of points. As a reAvard it received a beautiful cup presented by the members of the class and unveiled by President H. E. Stork.The best Avas yet to folloAv. Near the entrance door stood a cylindrical object resembling a keg of nails. Upon examination it Avas discov¬ ered that the keg contained Spirits of Apple. No further introduction was necessary. It was Avonderful to see hoAv adept Hyndman, Heinie, and Hemmer Avere in manipulating the intrica¬ cies of the faucet. They not only did justice to the floAving cup, but threatened to tap an¬ other keg at the expense of the other classes on the evening folloAving the grand cider meet to take place in November. Besides the cider, there Avas an abundance of pumpkin pie to Avhich all present did ample justice.Before adjournment the class chose old gold and black as class colors. These colors Ave shall nail high up on the flag staff, and Ave challenge any of the other classes to take them doAvn or to develop a better class spirit than that mani¬ fested among the College Course people. The gods are smiling upon us. Watch the College Course!SENIORS.Enthusiasm and class spirit were shown by the large number of Seniors present at their first meeting, October 8, 1913.
