Description: |
Letter to Eugene V. Debs on Boston Yacht Club letterhead, 08/13/1908. Says that his articles purpose is not to address socialists, but the people who know nothing about socialism. Writes that neither Fred Warren nor even Eugene V. Debs should have any say about it. Assures Eugene V. Debs that he did not present him the way that he did in his article because he liked Eugene V. Debs but because he was being fair. Tells Eugene V. Debs that he only used Victor Bergers remarks in the article to demonstrate the differences that existed between socialists and to bring out Eugene V. Debss character more. Informs Eugene V. Debs that Morris Hillquit, William Ghent, William English Walling, and Leroy Scott all thought the comparison between Eugene V. Debs and Victor Berger added both clarity and attractiveness to the article. Says that if Fred Warren is not able to see that then his judgment is worthless. Remarks that if anyone had a right to be upset about the article it was Victor Berger. Asks that Eugene V. Debs take the matter up with Fred Warren and straighten it out. Mentions that he appreciated all of the help he received from Theodore Debs. |
