This letter is asking the manager of the Bowl-Mor Recreation Alley if he would allow Black youths from South Bend to use his bowling alley. September 28, 1948 Bowl-Mar Recreation Alley 306 North Main Street South Bend, Indiana ATTENTION: Manager Dear Sir: In the interest of expanding the possibilities for clean and wholesale recreation for Negro youth of South Bend particularly in the young adult age group, we are contacting various public and private organizations who have at their disposal certain desirable facilities. South Bend is making great strides in inter-cultural education and in the over-all improvement of human relations. It is in keeping with this trend that we are inquiring as to the attitude of your place of business In regard to the use of your bowling alleys by Negroes.
