Deserted Beauty

Description: This painting depicts a buggy driving past abandoned barns in the country. The barns in this painting are made of old, brown/gray wood and green shingled roofs. The yard around the barns are overgrown and full of tall green grasses and a variety of flower. The smaller of the two barns on the left side of the painting has a dirt lane leading up to it. A large door and window are visible on this barn. The large barn on the right has an overhang and a window on the second level. A rusty windmill stands in front of the larger barn and has gold plants growing around its base. On the lane in front of this abandoned barn, an open air buggy is pulled from right to left across the painting. The horse pulling the buggy is brown with white accents and is turned so that the blinders can be seen. A couple sits inside the buggy. The man is wearing white and blue while the woman wears blue and pink. The yard along the bottom edge of the painting has a white mailbox, flowerbed, a white cat, and a small dog. The white mailbox has a raised red flag and a flowerbed of red, pink, and white flowers surrounding its base. A white cat sits on the edge of the road watching the oncoming buggy. A black and white dog also watches the buggy from the right side of the yard. The title of the painting, Deserted Beauty, in the center of the bottom edge in black. The date and copyright are in the bottom left corner in black. Schrocks signature is in the bottom right corner in black. Emma was at a quilting b ee. She became restless with her slow progress quilting. She was distracted by some old deserted barns across the road. She turned around on the quilting bench, and sketched so that she would remember the beaautiful scene when she returned home. In her painting she added a buggy with a young couple with a bundled baby. Emma giggled while telling her tale. She said that they were newly weds because they were still driving an open courting buggy. Emma enjoyed recreating the backdrop of the deserted old barns and adding the hopeful young family on a joy ride.Purchased from the collection of Steve & Sheri Scott-Welty
