Apple Butter Season

Description: This painting depicts a farmhouse and its family going about activities on a regular autumn day. There are three buildings in this painting including the farmhouse, a small shed, and the barn. The farmhouse in the left is white with green/gray roofing with flowers surrounding the house. There is a white vining flower that is climbing the right side of the house. Flowers in red, blue, pink, orange, and yellow make up the flowerbed surrounding the house. The small shed is a deep red with a brown roof. The sheds door is open showing the buggy parked inside of it. The large barn is the same shade of red as the small shed with a brown roof of many shades. There is a buggy parked in front of the side of the barn with a brown horse hitched to the barn. In the lane, a woman in blue and black sits on a stool tending to a large pot of Applebutter over a fire. Across the lane from her, there are six buckets of already finished Applebutter. A man in all black stands watching the woman from the lane. A black and white dog is standing near the man in the lane. In the yard, two girls, one in blue and one in pink, are working to rake leaves into a pile to transfer to the basket. A buggy runs along the road outside their yard with a reddish brown horse pulling the buggy towards the left. A man stands on the opposite side of the road from the farm, waving at the passing buggy. The trees in the painting are a mixture of yellow and red leaves with a dep brown trunk. Next to the tree closes to the lane and the road in front of the house, there is a pile of orange pumpkins and a white gourd. The title of the painting, Applebutter Season, is in the center of the bottom edge in black. The date is in the bottom left edge in black. Schrocks signature is in the bottom right corner in black.
