Velvet Greens miniature golf course located at 14th Street and Washington Street in Columbus, Indiana, circa 1930. Known as Tom Thumb courses, the Velvet Green course featured 18 holes with different obstacles and challenges and was the first miniature golf experience in Bartholomew County.According to the Columbus Register, the course opened in June of 1930 in the sunken gardens of a park owned by the Reliance Company of Columbus. It was built by local businessmen Clarence Kepley and S.T. Stapp and designed by architect C. Conrad Hammond of New York. |
