Description: A state park since 1928, the park features several lakes and remains a popular camping and fishing grounds. The name Shakamak was chosen by the parks founders supposedly because it means river of the long fish in the language of either the Delaware (Lenape) or Kickapoo Indians who lived here before being kicked out by the United States government in 1819, when the Indiana Territory was formed.
