Description: Real photo postcard of an American Foursquare house with a porch and dormer window. Written on the back: John Shelds - 1916 / The house at 3140 Northwestern Ave. Indianapolis / Great-grandmother Mann / Grandmother Abbott / Pappy Shields. No Longer Standing was added later. Northwestern Avenue was later renamed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.Directories show that John Shields (1834-1918) and his wife Alice Celesta (Mann) Shockly Shields (1852-1940), owned this house located on the northwest corner of Northwestern Avenue and Congress Avenue. The woman to the right is probably her mother Eliza Conner (Bryson) Mann (1827-1919). Houses seen to the left were in the 800 block of Congress Avenue. Alice, along with her 2nd husband James Isaac Abbott, continued to live in the house until her death in 1940. The house was later occupied by the Vaughn family and stood until at least 1966. It was demolished by 1972 for the construction of Interstate I-65 that is south of this lot. Celestia Alice Mann,
