Signs can be seen for Samuel T. Woollens Groceries and Provisions, a drugstore that also sold liquor and cigars, Joseph Welschbill Saloon, New York Millinery and Dressmaking, and F. M. Carson Fashionable Millinery.Handwritten on the back is Lafayette Ind. Showing cor[ner] of 5 & South. Taken by P. W. Wolever some[time] between 1869 & 1872. 1869 Steam & Gas fitter was Henry Bly as listed in the City DIrectory. 1870 Shaw steam & gas co. beginning 1870 Shaw run by Carson. New buck (?) as S. W. cor[ner] 5 & South built 1872. So this had to be 1870-1872. Plank across side in distance was Columbia Fire Station from about 1848 to 1910. Printed from original glass negative by me 10-29-60 A.
