The three-story brick building on the east side of the square on Illinois Street (later renamed 4th Street) has many broken windows due to a fire on February 5, 1873 [Source: Indianap9olis News, February 6, 1873]. Several people clean the debris in front. Signs visible for Weakly and Brown drugstore, H. Strauss clothing, Spencer Hall, Marvins, and W. L. Gregory Stoves and Hardware.Written above the building: This entire third floor of this Spencer Building was Spencer Hall - opera house of its period.
