Commemorative arch on Main and 4th Streets, Lafayette, Indiana, 1872

Description: This arch at the corner of Illinois Street (later renamed 4th Street) and Main Street commemorates when Germany defeated France in the Franco-Prussian War in 1872. It has pictures of George Washington, and three other men below the top. Some of the stores seen in the background are a clothing store, a music store, a bookstore, [?]ers Steam Bakery, M. Sim[?] Shoes, and [?] House.
