[1]. April 1834. (From Crawfordsville Record, April 12th 1834).Wabash Manual Labor College and Teachers Seminary. The summer session of this institution will commence the 5th of May next & continue five months. The Trustees have procured an instructor in the preparatory and teachers departments which are now regularly organized. In the latter department an extensive and thorough course of study is prescribed. An honorable examination in the studies of this course will be a prerequisite to graduation as qualified teachers.Young men wishing to obtain a good English education will find this course to embrace all the branches of science usually included in the English portion of a liberal education.The Trustees have made arrangements by which students can labor from one to three hours daily, and thus preserve their usual energy and contribute very essentially to earn the expenses of their education. Board at the institution is 41.00 per week exclusive of washing. Tuition $7.50 in the preparatory and teachers department, $5.00 in the primary class.April 11th, 1834. John Thomson, Sec. of Board.[2]. Preparatory school and teachers seminary commenced Dec. 3d 1833 under the care of Caleb Mills, Principal, with 12 students. The first named on the catalogue. Mr. Mills also took charge of a congregation in the west part of the county and for both received a salary of $400. the Am. Home Missionary Soc. paying one hundred for his missionary services.[3]. Mar. 25, 34. John Gilliland resigns the office of Treasurer. R. C. Gregory elected his successor.First course of studies adopted for the Teachers department {See Records of the Board Bk. A. p. 34-)Full system of laws adopted. Tuition appropriated to payt. of the Principal.Agent for the East proceeds upon his agency, leaving Crawfordsville.
