Description: |
As viewed from the roof of Jordan Hall, this HVAC equipment sits in front of Schwitzer Hall. The dormitory opened as a residence hall for women in 1956 with a capacity for 226 students. In the 1960s, two, three-story wings were added to the north side of the building, as shown in this photograph, creating space for an additional 210 students. Due to the increasing costs of renovation and the dorms lack of ADA accessibility, the dorm was torn down in 2016 so that a new dorm could be built in its place. Some of the limestone details were salvaged from Schwitzer before the building was demolished. They were incorporated into other campus structures such as the fence for the electric substation by the Greek parking lot off of Hampton Drive. |
