Irwin Library

Description: Designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki, Irwin Library opened to the public on September 9, 1963, and was dedicated on May 1, 1965. 228 prestressed concrete vaults were constructed for the building by Shute Concrete Products of Richmond, Indiana. Each vault weighs seven to eight tons and is forty-feet long. Specially designed trucks were needed to deliver the vaults to Butler University. The columns on the building are made of quartz aggregate.
