Photograph of trees and plants along the Indiana Central Canal

Description: This photograph shows the Indiana Central Canal. Construction began on the canal in 1836. Originally, the canal was supposed to be 296 miles long, connecting the Wabash and Erie Canal with the Ohio River. However, less than ten miles of the canal were completed due to economic issues from the Panic of 1837. Fairview Park was situated near the banks of the Indiana Central Canal from 1890 until the early 1920s and today, the land is home to Butler University.
