Description:	From left to right, Dr. Alexander (Alec) Whitehill Clowes, an unknown person, Butler University President John G. Johnson, Margaret (Peggy) Gracie Jackson Clowes, Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes Jr., Allen Whitehill Clowes, Jane Johnson, Lois Lee, and Butler University Board of Trustees Chair John (Jack) R. Lee stand in the Clowes Memorial Hall lobby during the Clowes Memorial Hall 25th Anniversary Gala. Behind them are portraits of Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes (left) and Edith Whitehill Hinkel Clowes (right). Both portraits were painted by Pietro Pezzati and donated by The Clowes Fund in 1966. The gala consisted of a performance by Rudolf Nureyev & Friends, followed by a champagne dinner held in the Krannert Room. Designed by architects John M. Johansen and Evans Woollen III, construction of the approximately 83,444 square-foot Clowes Memorial Hall began on August 15, 1960, and it officially opened on October 18, 1963. Built at a cost of approximately $3,600,000, the building was constructed in honor of the father of Allen Clowes and Dr. George H. A. Clowes Jr., Dr. George Henry Alexander Clowes. The majority of the financing was made possible by their mother, Edith Clowes, through the Clowes Foundation, but other funds were provided by Lilly Endowment, Inc. and Butler University, among other sources. Dr. George H. A. Clowes Jr. and Peggy Clowes are the parents of Dr. Alec Clowes.
