Southeast section of Jordan Hall under construction

Description: The construction of Jordan Hall began in September 1926. This photograph shows the construction work from the southeastern side of the building and only two of the buildings three above-ground stories have been constructed. Built from 2,797 tons of Balfour pink granite and 2,500 tons of limestone, the building was designed in the Collegiate Gothic architectural style by architects Robert Frost Daggett and Thomas Hibben. The general contractor was the Hegeman-Harris Company, which had built buildings for other universities including Yale, Harvard, and Columbia. When Jordan Hall opened on September 17, 1928, it was the only academic building on Butler Universitys Fairview campus and contained 54 classrooms, a science lecture hall that could seat 240 students, as well as other lecture halls for 150 to 200 students.
