Description: THE INTRAMURAL PROGRAMThe intramural program carried on during the past year has been verysuccessful, not only in the sense of participation but also in the sense of itsproviding wholesome recreation for all. The ninety per cent participationwas due chiefly to the increased interest brought about by the interscholastic program. This stimulation of interest led to the benefits always derivedfrom such friendly, competetive activity. As the popularity of the programincreased, the instructors saw the desirability of sponsoring coeducationalactivities. The variety provided by the program secured whole-hearted response from the students. The followng schedule was inaugurated:Coeducational activities Four to five o’clock dailyBoys’ games onlyTuesday, Thursday, three to fourGirls’ games onlyMonday, Wednesday, three to fourDuring the fall, the boys’ game was football; the girls’ was speedball. The coeducational activities were tennis, softball, archery, and horsebackriding. Through the winter, the boys played regular basketball, while thegirls participated in a tournament using girls’ rules. Supplementing basketball were coeducational bowling, aerial darts, table tennis, deck tennis, andsocial dancing. When spring arrived, special track events were arrangedfor the girls and separate events for the boys. Rounding out this schedulewere archery, riding, aerial darts, volleyball, and badminton. For those whodid not enter actively in the afore-mentioned sports, tennis and baseballtournaments were arranged. Many principles necessary for building the most desirable citizen havegrown out of this all-student participation in the recreational program.Courtesy and sportsmanship were developed in both boys and girls. Boyspossessing superior strength were encouraged not to take advantage of thissuperiority. These adjustments have led to wholesome respect betweenboys and girls. This fact alone would adequately justify the continuationof the plan. However, the students participating will long remember thesheer enjoyment experienced through this intramural program.Page forty-four
