Description: Class HistoryWe opened the door for the Freshmen Class of 1944 and 1945,and twenty-five members walked in. We were piloted by Dick Owens,President, Vernon Hash, Vice-President, Don Brock, Secretary, andDale Stamper, Treasurer. We were happy to have Mrs. Sparks forour sponsor even though she taught one of our most dreaded subjects,Biology. The greatest event in our freshmen year was the freshmen-sophomore initiation party. We were forced to come dressed as babies. The most spectacular baby was Mrs. Donald Christy, who rode in ababy carriage which was pushed by Don, who wore knee pants. Westarted this year feeling shy and nervous, but soon got used to beingjust little green freshmen. We all got a laugh one morning when Mrs.Sparks tried to pull Jackie Nickless’ hair, and couldn’t because hehad a burr hair-cut. The next morning several of the boys came toschool with burr hair-cuts.During our sophomore year Jack Nickless, Barbara Richardson, and Nellie Wilson withdrew. They were replaced by Bob Barrow, BillMcClary, Don Wampler, Ellen Robertson, and Antha Milton. That leftus with twenty-seven members. We elected our class officers earlyin the year. They were: Marilyn Hash, President, Dale Stamper, Vice-President, Bill McClary, Treasurer, and Catherine Wilbur, Secretary. Our sponsor this year was Miss Virginia Young. Early in the firstsemester we eagerly initiated the very new and very green freshmen. The setting for the party was the Home Economics Room. Everyfreshmen and new teacher got shocked, for we had a powerful shockingmachine. Those reluctant to be shocked were warmed with the paddles. We served chocolate milk and doughnuts. Everyone had a very excitingevening. Most of us entered typing for the first time this year. We couldhardly wait until the period came when we could get our hands on thosetypewriters. When we accomplished a speed of fifteen words per minutewe felt like experts. Of course we were soon disillusioned on that point. As Jolly Juniors we were under the capable leadership of Mrs.Gambill, ably assisted by Dale Stamper, President, Don Brock, Vice-President, Rebecca Boshears, Secretary, and Vivian Galyan, Treasurer.During this year Vernon Hash, Marilyn Hash, Bill Weddle, and AnthaMilton withdrew. Bill Mann, Helen Fishel, and Thelma White enrolled. We presented “Peck’s Bad Boy” as our class play. With the moneyearned from the play, concessions at the basketball games, and the saleof magazines, badges, stickers, and pencils, we took the Seniors on atrip to Turkey Run State Park. After exploring the park we came backto the park hotel and had a delicious chicken dinner. We started out the senior year with clean senior cords. CatherineWilbur, Doris Hardy, Helen Fishel, and Claris Walls withdrew. JoeHash entered and withdrew again, and Laura Lou Ward entered, makingour total membership twenty-three. After issuing a proclamation to theunderclassmen in regards to the wearing of senior cords and after
