branches of the lake. The swimming spree broke up when the girls, who had followed their tracks, came upon them. Of course the girls went running back to theshelter house, but the boys decided they had better get back, too, as the class hadwork to do. The whole party broke up, though, when Richard Chafin, who had turnedon the radio of his car, brought bjick word that President Roosevelt had died a fewhours before. All were sobered by the news, and we decided to go home.We helped the Seniors of 1945 give three one-act plays--“Quiet Home Wedding”‘‘No Greater Love”, and ‘‘Angels of Mercy”. Later in the year we gave our JuniorClass Play, ‘‘Too Many Smiths”, which was a great success.On April 24 the Juniors issued to all the Seniors and teachers of U.H.S. an excursion ticket to Springmill State Park. The ‘‘Kattle Kannon-Ball Special” leftpromptly from station U.H.S. on track 45. The “Special” was ably guided by engineer Loyd Anderson. Old and young alike were provided with a souvenir canemade by the Juniors. These canes helped in mounting the hills and some floatedfor a space down the stream.After a delicious dinner was enjoyed by all, we began our hikes, to help joltdown what we had eaten. The old colonial houses were nice but the caves wererather spooky. While coming home it rained, so we had a lot of fun trying to keepdry. We could have stayed twice as long, but our sponsors said that we were needed at school.We began our senior year with twelve students, Joe Hash having been inductedinto the Navy during the summer. We selected our class officers: CatherineYoung, President; Lester Woods, Vice-President; Bonnie Wilber, Secretary andTreasurer. Mrs. Richardson was our sponsor.We were well represented on the basketball team this year. Four Senior boyswere on the starting five. The boys did well and we are proud of their record.The first class activity of the year was our pie-supper, and Bonnie Wilber |
