Approaching the new housing division we remembered hearing CAROLYN EADS and her husband hadbought a beautiful split-level home there. During our visit with her we found out that she was receptionistfor the local R.C.A. plant. They have two children.Leaving Carolyn’s home we soon arrived at the Bloomington City Limits. Our next stop was at thehome of MARILYN RUSH, also one of our former classmates, now Mrs. Vernon Sowders. Marilyn is stillyelling--at her two sets of twins (girls) she is teaching her daughters to be nice and refined just like shewas in school. Marilyn tells us she takes her children to two good pediatricians--guess who--JUDY CAZEEand her husband. While talking to Judy she laughed and said “We keep our practice going by the usual child illnesses ofour four children ranging in age from one to four. After leaving Judy’s office we accidentally bumped into CLARIS CAIN. She is now a very efficientprivate secretary for the president of the B.B. and I. Company.Driving toward the airport we spotted a sign stating “CARL SHIELDS, Proprietor’’, of the “GreenMeadows Farm”. We just had to stop. Carl said his farm is one of the largest in Indiana and just for kickshe runs his own dairy.Arriving late at the airport we hurriedly headed toward our plane. While struggling with our luggagewe accidentally ran into another classmate--EARL LUCAS. He said he had just returned from a vacation insunny Florida. He also informed us that he is the Head Swimming Instructor at I. U.On boarding the plane we heard a voice that sounded familiar. Looking up we saw to our surprise noneother than FREEDA JOHNSON as the Air Line Hostess on our trip. Freeda was bubbling over with excitementat seeing us again. Unhappily she told us that she is still single but has her eye on a VERY good-lookingpilot!Another passenger on the plane was JOYCE SHIELDS. She had married a millionaire five years ago.Last year he died and left his fortune to her. She said she was going to New York to board a ship and starther fourth trip around the world.Walking past General Hospital in New York, Nancy remembered that she had once wanted to enter thenursing profession so we decided to tour the hospital. During our tour we peeped into the nurses lounge andwho did we see but JUANITA HAYES!Hearing of the fabulous matches at Madison Square Gardens we couldn’t resist attending at least oneof its great events. We were very surprised to see that the muscle man defending his championship wasROBERT LEE. Robert told ushegothis first taste of boxing in the Junior play in 1959. He goes by the nameof Robert 90 VOLT Lee.From New York we dipped down into sunny Florida for a stay at the luxurious Flamingo Hotel. Ourfirst night there we decided to go no farther than the hotel’s ballroom for our evenings entertainment. Onentering the room we heard a roar of applause and upon the platform was none other than BOB EADS, thelatest idol of teenagers as well as their parents. We could hardly wait to get to California to visit the great Paramount Studios where SHIRLEYDECKARD, a former classmate is employed as a hairdresser. Shirley said she had created the hair stylesfor such famed stars as: Saundra Dee, Carol Lynly, Tuesday Weld, and Dodie Stevens.Walking past a newsstand we suddenly stopped and stood amazed at the headlines. Picking up the paperwe read ROBERT SMITH, who is competing for his third cross-country Championship race, is now in townstaying at the Plaza!” We were very proud to hear that one of our former classmates had become so wellknown across the country. Later we phoned Robert and wished him the best of luck on his forth-coming race. |
