In the spring, there should be eight or ten fairly wellseasoned track and field athletes attempting to placeSmithville first in the Tri-County in that sport. A largenumber of beginners in track are planning to participatethis year and who knows, but what another Tommy Deckard willhave his first lessons on the cinder path.Regardloss of the outcome of all these contests, itmight bo said that many lessons will have been learned whichshould be of value to all of these who wore connected withcarrying on this part of the high school program.VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENTOne of the outstanding organizations in Monroe Countyis that of Vocational Home Economics. In school wo have theclasses in Food Preparation, Homo Nursing and Child Care,Family Relations, and Clothing.. Those classes along withseveral other courses are also taught in the 4H Clubs of thecounty during the summer vacation.*In Monroe County there has boon groat interest shown intho study of Vocational Homo Economics in the past. Wo havea total membership of about fivo-hundrod girls in tho 4HClub and several women in various Homo Economics clubs.Among those a number arc from Clear Crook township andhave won honors in this kind of work.Some of the honors won by members or students of ourschools arc, many prize ribbons, a trip to tho Indiana StateFair of 1938 by Dorothy Butcher and other awards. MissMaude Harrell, one of the loaders in this work, wo are proudto say, comes from our own school.Wo also have other loadersand Junior loaders from our school. Dorothy Butcher leaderand Junior loader, Ruth Hall Jr. Leader, and Viola Koutzor Jrloader.Wo urge every girl that has not had work in this fieldto join our clubs and those who have to continue thoir work. |
