In thiscourse reading is encouraged for both enjoyment andappreciation. The course in journalism is elective.Three years of English are required for graduation andit is, therefore, one of the studies most emphasized onthecurriculum.MATHEMATICSMathematics is a school subject that indicates theboys’ or girls’ scholastic effort to study. This subjectcan not be mastered without work. Any pupil who lacksinterest, or lacks effort can soon be classified as astudent. Each teacher, if she will make an effort toobserve children, can soon find out those who do not work. Then the child’s attitude toward work can be trained to docorrect work the first time rather than permit bad habits tobe formed. The school should be proud of a subject thatpupils cannot copy but must master and study each day.Mathematics is used in every-day life suchas counting, measurements, earning money, spending money, interests, building, and many things. The children should acquire suchskills, abilities, and vocabulary as he or she should needas his or her experiences in life are developed so thathabits of accuracy, reasoning power, and understanding ofthe problems of life can be solved without too great a costto the individual. |
