Description: LettersDear U Editors,Where am I now? Paris, city of lights. How didI get here? WellAfter leaving Harmony and Indiana, I beganpublic school in Austin, Texas, where I found myself andrealized that it was the last place I should be. So,when Sarah Lawrence College in New York gave me ascholarship, I had no trouble packing up my cowboyboots and moving to the big city. (Actually, this is a lie—I have never had cowboy boots).Anyway, once in Manhattan, I joined the mad, social whirl of clubs, art, drag queens and waitressing, learning about life through trial and error - and doing alot of things I can later shock my grand kids with. Myjunior year I spent in Paris where, I have to admit, Iwas not a star pupil. Rather than engross myself instudies of French literature, I preferred to spend mytime going to parties and hanging out in cafes; aprogram of study which made me the best Frenchspeaker in my class, if not the student with the bestgrades! Thus, I left Paris with regret, leaving behind ajob, good friends and (or so I thought), the love of mylife: Pierre. It only seemed natural to return aftergraduation, the only problem being Id fallen in lovewith someone else (as one does). My Parisianhomecoming began with a torrid break-up worthy ofJ.R. Ewings Dallas.Suddenly, I found myself alone in Paris with nojob, no place to live, and the equivalent of $40. Whatsa girl to do? Model. Its now been over a year and a half and Imstill at it. I live with my boyfriend Stan (anotherFrenchie) in a small apartment in the middle of Paris.I rollerblade, snowboard, and take martial arts lessonsthree times a week. I have plants, but no pets; mykitchen is arranged exactly how I like it; my bookcaseis filling up with books; Im starting to collect things. This is my home.I cant believe its only been 11 years sinceHarmony - it seems so much longer. At 23 years old, Icant believe I have much in common with the littlegirl I was then. Looking in the mirror, its hard toaccept that she ever existed, but I feel deep downsometimes, and I know shes still there.
