H. S. Since that time several have decided that thetrip was too long. At the beginning of this year our class was increased by two new members who hadstarted their trip in other schools.On February 18, 1930 the Junior class served a chicken dinner to the public at the M. E. church.During the Basket Ball season the class members sold candy, pop corn, and Eskimo pies. We werevery successful with these undertakings and have been able to get enough money to finance theJunior-Senior Reception.January 22 and 23, the Junior class presented a play The Old Codger. The cast was:Old Codger Alan WeinkaufRuth Johnson Jetta MayJob Dixon Paul StangerEloise Bryant Helen DrammsMr. Burns Dwight RoweBob Heartly Fred HerodMinnie Hopkins Lillyn WamplerPrudence Jinkens Kathleen TaylorMrs. Burns Hazel CoxSheriff John StansburyThe story of the Old Codger deals with the happenings following the selling of oil stock by acrook, Vincent Burns, to a young couple, Ruth Johnson and Bob Heartly. The Old Codger is a family friend of both of the young people. He was a former lover of Ruths mother and looks upon heras his own daughter. He attempts to prohibit them from buying the worthless stock but they resenthis attempts at helping them only to regret their decision later when they find they have lost theirmoney. The Old Codger finally convinced them that Mr. Burns was a crook. He is helped byEloise Bryant, who has been swindled by Burns several years before. It develops that the land whichturned out to be worthless in oil is richer in timber. In the end all turns out well.The comedy for the play was furnished by Prudence, the old maid, and Minnie, the hired girl, whoare both after Job Dixon, the hired man. Job is quite free in telling his Philippine Island stories.The Junior-Senior Reception was held at McCormick Creek State Park on Tuesday, April 22nd.This being the first time that it was ever held there at the Park, it proved to be very successful. Themanagement served a very excellent three course dinner. The evening was spent in dancing, cardplaying, and various other forms of amusements. The Juniors had as their guests besides the Seniorsthe High School Faculty.
