Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that provides families in need with newhomes. Souths Habitat Club helps to build these houses several times throughout the year. InSeptember, they began a new build; several club members shared how they were involved andwhy the clubs contributions were important. Though the house is not yet completed, SouthsHabitat Club will finish it and several more houses throughout the course of this school year.Habitat houses are built for qualifying families that currentlylive in substandard housing. Substandard housing could meanthat there is no ramp for a child with a wheelchair, there ismold in the house, or anything in between.-senior Baileigh GoodlettStudents constructed joists and really laid the groundwork forall of the future improvements that will be made. Theyconstructed and put up four walls and also constructed thebeginning of a porch.-junior Jennifer Crystalhome is where the(art) isLeading up to the Lotus WorldMusic & Arts Festival, the artistshave to do a lot of preparationto make sure they are ready topresent their work. One artist,Isabel Berglund of Denmark,relied on South students to helpher create her art. The Fridaybefore the festival, Berglundvisited South during first andsecond periods and askedstudents in b-wing art classes tohelp her knit and crochet yarninto house-shaped patterns,I.
