IN [COLD] WATEREvery season, the South Swim Team faces manychallenges, such as beating records and defeatingrivals. However, the 2016-17 season was unique inthat they had to face a more unusual challenge: abroken pool heater. The broken heater caused thetemperature of the pool to be below regulationforcing the swimmers to have to move their practicesto either Bloomington North or Indiana University.Sophomore Phoebe Rensink found such moveshectic, since she could never be sure of where thenext practice would be. This anomaly waschallenging for many swimmers and their familiesbecause they had to drive across town for bothmorning and after school practice. It wasinconvenient driving all the way out there, but it wasunderstandable. We were lucky to get that practicetime, junior Lucas Lobring said. Nevertheless, theswimmers were glad that practice was not canceledaltogether, despite the inconveniences.THE SWIM DOWNVICTORY LANEAthletes of the boys and girls swim teams share their thoughts on the experience ofbreaking records and going to sectionals and state competitions.Swimming is a sport that requires hours of practice beforecompeting.
