Description: HEADED FOR THE [HOOSIER] HILLSEvery year, Panther Activity Council collects cans through a fooddrive and delivers them to Hoosier Hills Food Bank. PACencourages first period classes to collect as many cans as possible;the class with the most cans wins a special breakfast party.Members of PAC are invested in the cause because it hits close tohome - Hoosier Hills Food Bank provides necessary services tolocal Bloomingtonians. Not only does the food bank help familiesin the community, but it also sponsors the Backpack Buddiesprogram, which is a service for a small group of students here atSouth who only get their meals here, co-president of PAC, seniorJayla Leverenz said. The program also ensures that those studentsare able to eat over the weekends and holiday breaks. One leaderof Panther Activity Council, junior Mallorey Daunhauer, sharedone way they tried to collect even more cans this year: we wentcanning from door to door with our group members from ourfreshmen SRTs, she said. The food drive proved to be both abonding activity for freshmen with their upperclassmen mentorsand a helpful service to the community. Seniors Ava Vickers and Gabrielle Hetrick wereinvited to a birthday party that was centered aroundparticipating in a Habitat Build. A member of thecommunity chose to celebrate her birthday by havingfriends spend their Saturday building a house throughan official Habitat Build. II. Junior Lauren Baumanparticipates in a Habitat for Humanity Build with herfamily. Bauman, her mom, and her sister all spent theday building a house. The Baumans were also invitedto the same build that Vickers and Hetrick attended,which was organized by a neighbor on her birthday.Coincidentally, it was also Baumans birthday on theday of the build.
