!V^,\BEHIND THE SCENESSouth students interned behind the scenes with the IUSummer Theatre for the production of Youre A Good Man,Charlie Brown.Over the summer, Indiana UniversitySummer Theatre provided sophomoreAneisha Porter and junior Lat JoorAwa (LJ) Gaye with the opportunity toget more experience working in atheatre by participating in theirproduction of Youre a Good Man,Charlie Brown. Both Porter and Gayewere able to not only become moreexposed to the inner workings oftheatre productions, but also to buildrelationships with professional castand crew members during theirinternships.Porter was first introduced to thespotlight in her internship with the IUSummer Theatre. However, Porter wasnot a member of the Peanuts gang;instead, she followed the actors withthe spotlight, making sure the lens wason the correct frame for effectivelighting on the stage. Porter spent anaverage of six hours a day for fourweeks working backstage to bring thiscomic to life at the Wells-Metz Theatre.Because she had been spending somuch time at the theatre, Porterresolved to [go] to bed earlier so [she]could stay alert during the day.The internship program at IUSummer Theatre attracted Gayebecause of the opportunity to work inthe shows many departments. Theweek before the show debuted, Gayewas invited to work in the marketingdepartment to offer fresh ideasregarding promotion. He was showndisplays and was challenged toimprove them with innovativeproposals. While Gaye had numerousideas that would benefit the marketingdepartment, he soon discovered thathis biggest challenge was not beingable to understand the calculationsbehind [advertising] and just being verypassionate about what [he] was puttingout. Gaye said that throughout theinternship he grew in numerousdirections, from gaining a deeperunderstanding of advertising andmarketing in the real world tooperating the spotlight.Over the four weeks of their IUinternships, Porter and Gaye gainedknowledge in areas of theatre to whichthey had never been exposed before.The two also enjoyed the warmth andcamaraderie of a passionate cast andcrew. Porter said she got to know theIU cast members well, and she willespecially cherish the memories of thecharacter Snoopy, who entertainedeveryone during microphone checkswith a rap or a song. Though the comiccharacter Charlie Brown can at timesbe gloomy, the collaboration of Southstudents alongside IU students wasnothing short of heartwarming anduplifting.- SHAHZADI UPADHYAYHOT,HOT WATERAUG. 20,2016In July of 2016, world-famouspop star Justin Bieber teamed upwith Major Lazer to make a newsingle called Cold Water.While the song gainedpopularity worldwide seeminglyinstantly, Bieber forgot the lyricswhile preforming in front ofthousands of fans at the August20th V Festival in Chelmsford,England, telling fans, Im sorry,I dont remember the words.Most fans would expect anartist to know the lyrics to hisown song, but as this was amash-up with another artist, itseems like he has an excuse.
