The gymnasts this yearhad no such uncertainties. The experience on this gymnasticsteam was off the charts. Having threegirls with over ten years of experience inthe sport made for no surprise that theteam and individual goals were set highand lofty. Sophomore Kaylee Eurtonbrought 12 years of tumbling andcompeting, and she used those years toher advantage. At the beginning of theseason, Eurton was not worried abouther performance - she was worriedabout making it to state. The mental and physical demandsof the sport make the effort to have funconcerted and intentional. With fivedifferent events to specialize in, thereare many opportunities to show onespotential. This season, Eurton enjoyedshowing her skills on the floor whilejunior Megan Oyler enjoyed the highrisk event of vault. With 15 years ofsuccessful training, Oyler approachedthe season confident in her abilities. Shefocused on improving the teamsperformance not only at state but also intheir future competing together as aunit.Like Eurton, senior Cheryl Brucewas a fan of floor, and her ambitions forher final high school year were many.Returning to the team after an absencelast year, Bruce led the team along sidethe other senior teammates to victory. Her 10 years of experience helped her tofocus on improving her all-around skills. While Bruce is moving forward after theseason, it is guaranteed that theexperience and dedication present onthe team this year will surely return inthe next.-CLAIRE DENNIShold thatposeSome gymnastics poses and moves aredefined to show off their skill levels.elbow backbendA backbend with yourelbows flat on thefloor.front walkoverA forward skill that goesfrom a handstandposition to splitting legsapart, landing on one ata time then coming upon one leg.I |
