With plays, concerts, artshowings and art classes beingheld at the Waldron, what wouldhappen if it were to close down?Senior John Powers was thepresident of the BloomingtonSouth Orchestra, which held theHot Jazz on a Cold Night, afundraiser in which IndianaUniversity music professorsplayed jazz, while orchestramembers served wine and horsdoeuvres. This event was heldevery year at the Waldron.Tom Walsh [a professor of JazzStudies at Indiana University] hasdaughters in orchestra and hasalways performed, Its adultoriented, but welcome toeveryone. [South Orchestra] hasbeen doing it as long as I canremember, which is at least sixyears, said Powers. Due to risingrental prices in 2009, Powers hadto move the event.Powers said the best concerthe had ever gone to was held atthe Waldron. Man Man and TheExtraordinaires played at theWaldron, It was the perfect venue.Man Man has such a detailed andwell rehearsed show that...youdlose something if you were morethan 15 feet away from the stage,said Powers,Senior Meaghan Rigali wasone of the South students chosento have her paintings, drawings,sculptures, stained glass orphotography displayed at theWaldron.Rigali said, Photography ismy favorite class and I guess Iproduced good enough work toget [displayed].Rigalis photography was alsodisplayed last year. When I foundout they had it last year I wasexcited. It made me want to workharder and submit better stuff. Idbe disappointed if they closed[the Waldron] down, said Rigali.There was a possibility thatthe city would buy the building,but what would happen if theWaldron closed? For countlessBloomington citizens and Southstudents, the Waldron served as acreative outlet.
